Why is Organizational Traffic Safety an emerging focus area?

Globally 1.19 million people are killed and a lot more are severely injured every year by our transport systems. Road crashes are the leading cause of death among people aged 5-29.

Traffic safety is about saving lives, but its impact streches beyond, shaping equality and social sustainability. It influences global health and allows adults and kids to move actively, freely and safely in urban environments. And it is about occupational health and safety and human rights.

Around 50 % of all traffic accidents are linked to work-related mobility - wether someone is killed or injured while working or as a result of work-related transport.

The 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, held in Stockholm in February 2020, was a gamechanger for how traffic safety is viewed as a global topic. The conference proclaimed traffic safety as part of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, not just as a singular goal but also as a facilitator for other goals.

With the Stockholm Declaration, the world leaders and private sector representatives united around the ambition to have businesses globally include traffic safety as part of their sustainability reporting practices.
